Dr. Panayotis Karayannakidis

Dr. Panayotis Karayannakidis (PDK) is a graduate student from the Department of Food Technology of the Alexander Technological Educational Institute (ATEI) of Thessaloniki (Greece). He completed his doctoral study on 20th December 2007 at the University of Lincoln (UK), where he acquired expertise in the field of Seafood Science and Technology. Following the completion of his doctoral study, PDK served as an Assistant Food Manager for the Greek Army. Since then he has worked as a post-doctoral research associate at the University of Rhode Island (USA), the ATEI of Thessaloniki (Greece) and the Fisheries Research Institute of Kavala (Greece), where he was involved in several research projects of national and international importance in the fields of marine byproduct utilization, marine nutraceuticals, fish processing and quality, as well as the development of novel specialty aquafeed ingredients. Furthermore, PDK has worked for the Ministry of Rural Development and Food of Greece and was placed at the Department of Food Microbiology of the Veterinary Laboratory of Kavala, where he conducted microbiological tests on bivalves – mollusks according to the standard procedures of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). At present, PDK works at the Thessaloniki Water Supply and Sewerage Co., SA (EYATH, SA), where he serves as a Quality Manager of the Laboratories accredited according to the ISO 17025 standard. His areas of interest include development of energy efficient technologies for the utilization of marine byproducts; marine nutraceuticals; physicochemical characterization of marine macromolecules; specialty aquafeed ingredients; fish quality; fish processing.
